To be the world market leader and the #1 supplier of Strained Layer Super Lattice (SLS) and Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector (QWIP) Focal Plane Arrays (FPAs) with a focus on

  • Reliable and guaranteed supply of SLS and QWIP FPAs
  • State-of-the-art performance
  • Aggressive pricing focused on the commercial market
  • Rapid product advancement into multiple product lines
      - Mid-format 1-color longwave infrared (LWIR)
      - Large-format 1-color LWIR
      - Mid-format 2-color midwave/longwave infrared (MWIR/LWIR)

QmagiQ was founded on September 1, 2003, to commercialize QWIP FPAs. Started by seven internationally-recognized experts and pioneers in QWIP/IR-sensor/OE technology with proven track records in both military as well as commercial-startup companies, QmagiQ is driven by two simple metrics: deliver value to the customer (on time and with 100% satisfaction), and develop products that will enable new revenue streams for our customers with minimal investment. We are fast and efficient at development and manufacturing - our first commercial product hit the street on October 22, 2003, seven weeks from company start. Our financial model gives us our focus - revenue shall exceed expenses from day 1.

The infrared camera/system market requires a reliable supplier of high-performance cost-competitive LWIR FPAs. QmagiQ is and will continue to be that supplier. There is also an ongoing market need for sensors that will cut system costs and offer significant new capabilities (e.g. uncooled operation, multi-color/hyperspectral imaging, imaging and detection from near-IR to Terahertz bands, etc.) to penetrate new markets and enable new applications. QmagiQ is aggressively developing solutions to these needs - our next-generation sensors will be one of the engines driving IR market growth.

Mani Sundaram at 8.6µm Mani Sundaram

is CEO/President and co-founder of QmagiQ. He has worked at Lockheed-Martin, JPL (NASA), and TeraConnect (co-founder and VP of Technology). He is an expert in optoelectronic devices and systems. A devotee of the capitalist school of quantum mechanics, his interests are in converting the Schrodinger Equation into revenue and the Heisenberg Principle into profit. He mandates that all employees know the Planck constant (correct units, please) and adhere to the QmagiQ philosophy that revenue exceed expenses at all times. He has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of California.

Axel Reisinger at 8.6µm Axel Reisinger

is CTO and co-founder of QmagiQ. He has worked at Lockheed-Martin, GE, McDonnell-Douglas, and TeraConnect. He is an expert in the design and analysis of lasers, detectors, and modulators. A veteran of laser reliability studies, he has won acclaim in the laser community as the "Dr. Kevorkian of lasers". He enjoys Baroque music (preferably from the Dark Ages, more preferably with red wine), translating French books into English, and trashing his colleagues in ping-pong. He has a PhD in Physics from Columbia University.

Richard Dennis at 8.6µm Richard Dennis

is Director of Engineering and co-founder of QmagiQ. He has over 20 years of experience in optoelectronic/semiconductor development and manufacturing at GE-Commercial, E-Lab, Lockheed-Martin, and TeraConnect. One rumor (suspected to originate from Rich himself) has it that he can take apart and re-assemble a state-of-the-art ICP etch reactor in 30 minutes flat, while blind-folded. This feat has yet to be tested. He has a BS in Chemistry from Rivier College, NH.

Kelly Patnaude at 8.6µm Kelly Patnaude

is Process Manager and co-founder of QmagiQ. She brings over 25 years of experience in semiconductor processing from Alpha Industries, Cree Research, Lockheed-Martin, and TeraConnect. The only woman among the founders, she considers it her solemn duty to keep the boys in line. A casual patron of the slot machines on Atlantic City's Boardwalk, she is living proof of the legendary "luck of the Irish", a fact that manages to annoy the heck out of her male colleagues. She has two degrees in Electronics from the New Hampshire Technical College.

Douglas Burrows at 8.6µm Douglas Burrows

is Process Design Manager and co-founder of QmagiQ. He has 22 years of experience in semiconductor processing and process design at Bell Labs, MIT Lincoln Labs, Sanders, Lockheed-Martin, and TeraConnect. Recognized by the cognoscenti as wielding one of the sharpest electron-beams east of the Mississippi, he is also an avid hunter and musician, being the proud owner of an impressive array of firearms and guitars (the latter have reportedly done more damage to New Hampshire's wildlife than the former). He has a BS in Zoology from the University of Rhode Island.

Jason Bundas at 8.6µm Jason Bundas

is Test Manager and co-founder of QmagiQ. He is an expert in defining, setting-up, and conducting rigorous testing of optoelectronic devices and systems containing lasers, modulators, and detectors. He has worked at Lockheed-Martin and TeraConnect. The "kid" among the founders, he possesses many of the admirable interests that will re-assure older Americans that the future of the country and their Social Security is in safe hands - car racing, growing coral, and raising pet boa-constrictors. He is also the undisputed champion of foosball at QmagiQ. He has an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts.

He has over 20 years of management and engineering experience in cutting-edge optoelectronic and sensor technologies at Lockheed-Martin, Martin-Marietta, Santa Barbara Research Center, and most recently at Xanoptix, where he led the development of the highest bandwidth optical datacom modules in the world today. Not to be trifled with, he has a blackbelt in karate and enjoys tai-chi (or feng-shui or sushi, we are not sure). He has a BS in Physics from the University of California.
